Supporters of recycling construction materials highlight the advantages. For example, reusing materials can reduce construction waste. Fewer usable items would be sent to landfills, and less energy would be needed to produce new materials from raw materials. Furthermore, it lowers building costs. Recovered doors, bricks, metal parts, or wooden beams may be cheaper than new products, particularly when they can be used with only minor cleaning or repair and are available near the construction site.

However, critics point out some concerns. It can be difficult to confirm the safety of old materials because their age, previous use, or hidden damage may be unknown. Testing every item can require time, specialist knowledge, and additional equipment. Storage is also a problem. Recovered materials may need to be kept for months before a suitable project is found, requiring large, dry, and secure spaces that are expensive to rent or maintain.
