Despite these benefits, critics point out a major drawback. Stores would need to collect, store, and inspect returned containers, which increases employees' workload. For example, staff might have to separate damaged or dirty items. Also, if containers are not handled and cleaned properly, food or drink left inside them could create hygiene problems. This may require stores to consider introducing extra measures to manage returns safely.
