Supporters say AI monitoring is beneficial. This is because unusual changes in forests can be detected sooner. Some forests are in remote areas that people cannot inspect frequently. Other changes are small or spread across wide areas and may be missed during occasional visits. AI systems, however, can repeatedly compare images and identify signs such as changes in tree color, temperature, or density.

Nevertheless, critics raise some concerns. For example, forests in remote areas may need communication networks, sensors, and regular technical support. However, the necessary equipment can cost a lot of money to introduce and maintain. Another concern is that AI may produce incorrect information. Clouds, shadows, seasonal changes, or faulty equipment can be mistaken for serious problems. False warnings may waste time and money, while missed warnings could delay action against real damage and allow it to spread.
