Greater competition might lower prices, shorten waiting times, and make repairs available in more places.

However, opponents identify concerns. Repairs performed without proper knowledge or approved parts could create safety problems, particularly with batteries or electrical equipment. A poorly repaired product might overheat, catch fire, or fail unexpectedly during use. Furthermore, these laws could increase the burden on companies. For example, they may need to provide additional support such as giving technical support for many years and making sure that replacement parts and repair methods meet safety standards.
