The skills needed for work are changing as artificial intelligence (AI) develops. Many people are therefore reconsidering how they prepare for future careers. More students are entering vocational schools to learn practical job skills.

What are some benefits of vocational education? Students can learn skills needed for a specific occupation in a relatively short time. This may allow them to begin working sooner than with longer academic programs. Furthermore, they can develop practical abilities that AI may not easily replace. Hands-on work, repair, care, and technical tasks often require physical judgment and experience.

However, vocational schools also have some disadvantages. The number of occupations and fields available for study may be limited. Students may have fewer choices if their interests later change. Another concern is that learned skills may become outdated as technology changes. Graduates may need additional training when tools, systems, or industry requirements develop quickly over time after graduation.
